Didn't Fall Start Two Weeks Ago?

Although, I have been a major slacker and haven't written a post in a while, I have not deviated from my love of the games. In fact, my love for football specifically has kept me more glued to others' information than to producing my own. But now is the time for me to change my ways and return to the process by which I forcibly push my personal opinions down the throats of those who voluntarily click on the link to this blog. You are the true MVP here.

College and pro football has begun which means that Fall is finally here. Just like baseball in the Spring, it is not a calendar date that determines the seasons but the beginning of a sport. Although yesterday was (according to a piece of paper with numbers on it made by man) the first official day of Autumn, let me bring you up to speed on a few things that have already happened this Fall...this true Fall...in pro football (college will come another day).

The Empire That Never Falls
Though they cannot be considered a dynasty like they were in the early 2000s, there is now question that the New England Patriots have been the most dominant team in football since the turn of the century. Blame Deflategate all you want but this season so far is proving that the talk is more than just hot air. Because of the scandal, Tom Brady (considered one of the best QBs in the league) is serving his four game suspension meaning the team is relying on second string QB Jimmy Garopollo. But wait, he got injured. That means third string QB Jacoby Brissett is the new starter with WR Julian Edleman as the backup. And yet, they still win. With Brady out, Garopollo out, and Rob Gronkowski (arguably the best TE in the league) having an injury keeping him out of two of the first three games, the Patriots are still 3-0. With Gronk on the mend, and Brady returning to the team in a couple weeks, the Patriots seem to be unstoppable.

Same Headline as Every Year
My personal feelings on Robert Griffin III (RGIII) are unmasked. He was good for one year in college. Though he won the Heisman Trophy, there were other players that were better. he did not deserve the NFL Rookie of the Year Award. Both Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson were better in that season not to mention the long term. No, let's talk about the long term. On the record, there are six injuries listed over a five season span including concussions. That is more injuries than seasons. Yet teams still start him. And he still gets injured. This season it is a broken bone in his left shoulder.

The Most Interesting Conference Is....
the NFC West. For the previous four seasons, the Seattle Seahawks have been rather dominant in this division. Last season the Arizona Cardinals crept up on them and took the division while the Seahawks kept a playoff Wild Card spot. This year, Seattle has seemingly lost their dominance as the Cardinals remain good. Now we must also throw a Chip Kelly-led San Fransisco team that has looked pretty decent beginning the season and an LA Rams team which, after relocating from St. Louis, if they can find their footing and their offensive line, can produce a running game that could solidify their chances in the division. Along with the fact that this is the only division where all teams are 1-1 to start the season, this is the most interesting conference.

Other Story Lines Worth Mentioning
Pittsburgh is running crazy over teams with an old man at RB (De'angelo Williams) aiding the team to a big win over bitter rivals Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals are a consistent dark horse, never count them out. Oakland is on the rise with WR Cooper beginning to take over as WR1. In college, the conferences in the South are the strongest but the NFC and AFC South are the weakest divisions in the NFL with only one legitimate threat in each division. Rookie of the year should come out of the NFC East (Wentz, Prescott, or Elliot).

Week 3 is just under way and there are so many stories taking shape. In basketball after two games, there is little that can be gathered. In baseball, two games isn't even a full series. Only in football does one game have as big of an impact as it does.
